Flipping the calendar to September this morning felt like relief, a wave washing away the chaos of the last month.
On July 31st, I got a call that no one is ever prepared for…
“Your husband’s been in an accident.”
Sean had taken our dog on a walk that afternoon and the woman on the phone told me he had fallen out of his wheelchair and was now lying on the concrete at the entrance to the store.
From that moment, life became a blur of EMTs, hospital staff, visitors and sleepless nights as I watched the man I love most endure excruciating pain day after very long day.
From day one, people asked, “Mindie, how are you holding up?”
I remember laughing in the hospital saying, “I’m awesome… considering. There is more love and support here than I know what to do with.”
When Sean posted what had happened on Facebook, the response from the world was immediate and powerful. I felt buoyed up by the prayers and positive energy flowing our way.
Energy healers were sending good vibes from around the globe. Jews across Israel were praying for us. Deepak Chopra was praying for us. Messages of healing came from every direction, near and far.
It was completely overwhelming in the best possible way.
Now that we’re four weeks in and the multiple bone fractures and bruises are healing, there are hundreds of lessons we can extract from everything we experienced (and we will, given our line of work). ;-)
For today though, I am grateful for contrast.
The contrast between discomfort and intense pain.
A good night’s sleep vs. no sleep.
Gentle natural remedies vs. strong pharmaceuticals.
September vs. August. :)
At any moment in time, you can be grateful for anything in your life and yet, the sense of that gratitude seems heightened when you’ve been on the other side of it.
If it weren’t for the contrast life provides, we wouldn’t get it that intensely.
Today, be grateful for the contrast life has presented to you. The good and the not-so-good are the gifts of being alive to experience LIFE. That is why we are here.
P.S. We knew we had amazing friends, family, clients and connections on social media, but when life turned upside down for us, YOU showed up for us in so many ways and we are ever so grateful. Thank you.
