White Hot Truth

I love this.

It’s from Danielle LaPorte, rockin’ conscious business mentor and creator of White Hot Truth.

I had the awesome opportunity to work with her, and our conversation was the catalyst for so much good and growth for my company.  Read her stuff and be inspired.

Perspective at Dawn

For Keith Nelson and Joan Jones,

on their wedding day, November 21, 2009

It was an honor to write this for my friends and share it at their ceremony.

perspective at dawn

shut your eyes and take love by the hand,
a petal in your open palm,
fingers splayed to the horizon,
with gentle and deliberate grace
so as not to crush its intricate allure,
its infinite artistry.

celebrate and dance and play in the vibrance of love’s
two dreams grafted, growing, becoming one.
energy unbounded,
love reborn.

look on love’s face and notice, not only
the glint in the eye,
the seduction of the brow,
the curve of the lip,
but note too the lines etched from smile,
the lifeblood in the cheek,
the subtle hunger that draws you close,
the breath that feeds the cells of lung and heart and heat.

let your voice, your word and the spirit of your song
be your compass
as you venture into uncharted waters,
beyond the map’s edge
and let love rain joydrops to nourish your landscape.

through the tempest, when darkness settles,
risk all for love’s unfolding.
and when dawn pours forth each morning,
renewed and sacred,
it presents a novel perspective of light and life,
an invitation to awaken.

Creating Order

In The Success Principles (which I highly recommend) Jack Canfield mentions how his friend Martin Rutte told him that whenever he wants to bring in new business, he thoroughly cleans his office, home, car, and garage.  “Every time he does, he starts getting calls and letters from people who want to work with him.”

That got me thinking about the state of my home office.  If it’s the epicenter of my work and creativity in my home, it would serve me to get organized and allow the flow of energy a clear path.

Then, in a completely unrelated conversation with my awesome astrologer friend Tony Howard, he mentioned that it might be helpful for me to consider how, in Japanese culture, great care is taken in the placement and order of every item in their home.

All of this within the last few days.  Hmm… noticing a theme?

And then, in a conversation last night regarding Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich, someone mentioned this line:  “Resolve to throw off the influences of any unfortunate environment and to build your own life to order.”  He may have meant order as in made to order, but the first thing that came to mind was ORDER, i.e. the opposite of chaos.

This is how the universe teaches me… through the people in my life and the material I read.  It shows me the same lesson, time and time again, in a different presentation, until I get it.  My job is to listen, learn, and take action.

Breakfast in Bridgetown

My interview with Paul Gerald, author and publisher of Breakfast in Bridgetown: The Definitive Guide to Portland’s BreakfastinBridgetown.COVERFavorite Meal, aired yesterday on pdx.fm.  I love that he has a whole radio show dedicated to breakfast!

We talked about all my favorite breakfast/brunch places in Portland, and which restaurants the PDX Breakfast Club meetup has visited to enjoy their first meal of the day.

My top picks:  Tin Shed on NE Alberta and Veritable Quandary downtown.  Holy yum!

My Favorite Minestrone

this is super easy (my kind of recipe) and makes a lot of yummy soup.  add french bread and shredded parmesan and you’ve got a great meal.

first start with a really big pot.

1 pound ground beef — brown and drain

1 cup chopped celery + 1/4 cup chopped green onion — add to meat and cook till soft

add 1/4 cup chopped green pepper

add 4-5 cans chicken broth — bring to boil

1 large bag frozen mixed vegetables — simmer 15 minutes

1 large can kidney beans or great northern — simmer 10 minutes

1 jar spaghetti sauce — simmer 30 minutes

add 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

pinch of salt and pepper

add cooked pasta of choice when serving (if you leave it in the soup, it soaks up all the fluid)

this recipe makes a lot so you’ll have leftovers or extra for freezing.

enjoy!

Speak from that place in your heart…

Henri Nouwen slays me…

“Speak from that place in your heart where you are most yourself. Speak directly, simply, lovingly, gently and without any apologies. Tell us what you see and want us to see; tell us what you hear and want us to hear….Trust your own heart. The words will come. There is nothing to fear….”  ~  Life of the Beloved: Spiritual Living in a Secular World

Thank you to Mark David Gerson for posting this on his blog yesterday.  It’s exactly what I needed to hear, particularly as I get into the habit of writing A LOT everyday (NaNoWriMo).

Here’s to pulling our words from that place in us which is most authentic.
